John at work

I have been posting info about John's radio show, An Hour On The John, for some time now, and just received some pictures of John at CFYT Community Radio Station (photo credit: Dawson visitors Lisi & Georg Niesner, Austria) that I am sharing with you. John's show begins at 6:30 PM CB time on Fridays and can be accessed by going to www.cfyt.ca (click here or on the header to get to CFYT) and following the instructions to listen online.

Hi Susan
I have enjoyed John's radio show a number of times and have heard him play selections for you and your husband. I recall one was a Tom Waits piece, he is one of our faves as well.

You son looks great! What else does he do in Dawson and did you live there as well at one time?

John works for Parks Canada in the admin office in Dawson. Andy & I lived in Whitehorse and when John came up he moved almost immediately to Dawson City and has been there since, 8 years now, I believe. And he loves living in the north, Dawson in particular, which is entirely understandable, but it is SO far away! I say this having had this conversation with my father yesterday. He lamented his children moving such distances from the family. There is only one child at a distance and that's me! But I could tell him honestly that I knew exactly what he meant.

From what I have heard from Daswon is that it seems to have a great sense of community. I am sure it must be very beautiful.

Parents and children living far away can be tough. Tom will be retiring in 2 years and we will most likely move...somewhere. He would like to head to the east coast, part of me would like that but I would be so far away from my family. I do love the ocean and am drawn to it so time will tell. Tom grew up on the south shore of NS, has a brother there and one in New Glasgow and a sister in Wolfville.

Wherever I do live I need to me within driving distance to a city!

Take care

Eight years in July, and never a regret! But it is way too far away from family, especially with Mackenzie now.
