Shirley poppy

My gardener friend, Fenella Nicholson, gave me seed from her Shirley poppies and this year I had a bumper crop throughout my vegetable garden. This is a detail from a photo I took today, one of my first poppies with the blossoms fully open. The green pod tucked in the pink petals is entirely fabulous!

What a beautiful poppy, love the name as well. I have never seen this variety before. Also love the ariel photos of your place!

Lovely to hear from you, Karen. I hear from Southern Ontario family that your summer has been as hot as ours has been grey and cool (15 degrees right now and foggy again). Hope you've had many chances to be to the beach and enjoy the heat. -- Susan
